Linda Ikeji is the 2011 Person of The Year

When Linda Ikeji began her self-titled blog back in 2006 a lot of people derided her efforts, saying it was merely a flash in the pan, bound to lead nowhere, with some even going as far as stating she ought to stick to her modeling career. Of particular note was a story done in National Encomium by popular gossip hag,  Stella Dimoko Korkus, in which she all but dismissed any chance of Linda’s newest venture having any success .

5 years down the line not only has Linda proven her critics wrong, but her blog has emerged as what is unarguably the most popular, visible and  commercially viable entertainment property in Nigeria’s corner of the Internet.

Whether it was something as serious as the Abia gang rape story which she brought to the attention of not only the government and people of  Nigeria, but also international media, including BBC, CNN and Al-Jazeera among others, something as irreverent as the sham marriage between Mercy Johnson and her Prince of dubious mien, or something as deeply personal as her various pronouncements on her sex life (or lack thereof),  Nigerians and friends of Nigeria could trust her blog to raise awareness and shape public perception of the subject at hand in a major way

In our case for example, we can’t even begin to count the number of times we’ve run across the office  proclaiming  ’did you see what she just posted’, and we know we are not alone in this regard. Nor can we begin to count the number of times we’ve seen and continue to see stories that she brought to light become the fodder for discussion across various internet fora, with debates raging for days on end.

Ultimately, for being a private citizen who has used the power of the keyboard to best shape Nigeria’s polity in 2011, 1976AD proudly declares Linda Ikeji the 2011 person of the year.

“The Christian community in Nigeria is deeply sorrowed over the deteriorating state of insecurity within the  country and apparent inability of the govt to guard and guarantee lives, churches and properties of our members. Our hearts particularly goes out to the bereaved families of the 2011 Christmas Day bombings at Madalla, Jos, Damaturu and Maiduguri where over fifty christian trustworthy have reported to own been killed through the foremost recent attacks.

“The concern of the Christian Community is any heightened by the admittance by government itself that it's data of the perpetrators of those crimes, sadly there aren't any convincing high profile arrest to assuage public anxiety over this matter.

“Having reviewed the pattern, trend and frequency with that these terror crimes occur, it fits into the profile of Islamic Jihad over the years on the christian community, that properly are contextualized. it's thought-about as a declaration of war on Christians
and Nigeria as an entity.

“The Christian community has found the responses of the Supreme Council for Islamic affairs and alternative Islamic bodies on this matter to be unacceptable and abdication of their responsibilities over their extremist members. it's on record that almost all spiritual, ancient and political leaders within the North haven't set out brazenly to condemn the extremist activities of Boko Haram, we have a tendency to hold them answerable for what's happening, as a result of they need not taken concrete steps to visualize the excesses of their members.

“The Christian Community is quick loosing confidence in government’s ability to guard our rights to non secular liberties and life. The consensus is that the Christian community nationwide would be left with no alternative choice than to retort appropriately if there are any more attacks on our members, churches and properties. we have a tendency to want to reassure Mr. President of our continued support and prayers for the success of his government. “I have listened attentively to the statement of will however let me once more reassure will and indeed Nigerians that any terror attack on anyone or structure during this country is an attack on all people as a result of terrorists don’t have boundary. that's why a number of them will even move to the intense of suicide bombing. You see someone throw an explosive into the market, he doesn't even care whether or not his father or mother is there”.

He described terrorism as ugly “that is why some folks described it as attack of the evil ones on an honest society. Yes, one can expect government to try and do additional and government can surely do additional. One issue I normally mention is that yes, we've been managing criminals during this country. the foremost ferocious are the armed robberies. we've never experienced armed theft before the civil war. it absolutely was once the civil war Nigeria started experiencing armed theft. Since then, government has been battling armed theft. But then, this terror attack is new to us however I will assure you that we have a tendency to do our greatest to create certain that we have a tendency to pass though it. alternative countries that have experienced it are serving to us. each African and non-African countries that have suffered attacks are helping. I encourage Nigerians to figure with government as a result of after we work along collectively, we are going to pass though it.

“The terrorists are personalities, they're not spirits, they live with us, they dine with us. we all know them, folks understand them. As long as Nigerians are committed to show them, we are going to pass though this ugly scenario. At the protection level, we have a tendency to do our greatest, we are going to restructure, we are going to re-adjust and check that we have a tendency to get a team which will meet with the challenge we have a tendency to face nowadays.

“When in December 2009, a Nigerians was caught in a very flight to US, we have a tendency to were all stunned and embarrassed. we have a tendency to thought such folks weren't living with us, that in all probability he was contaminated outside. currently we've come back to fulfill the fact that we've terrorists and even suicide bombers among us. we have a tendency to should fish them out, we have a tendency to solely raise for the cooperation of all Nigerians.

“And i'll plead with spiritual leaders, each Muslims and Christian leaders, to figure along as a result of terrorism is sort of a cancer to the body, it starts from somewhere and unfold to any or all the organs of the body. it's sort of a flood and a giant storm, it starts from somewhere and before you recognize, it goes to places you never expected. thus if anybody is dancing spherical and thinking that it's not its flip nowadays, it'll be worse off. therefore the neatest thing is for all spiritual leaders , opinion and ancient leader to not politicize the situation”.

Arewa Consultative Forum Condemned Christmas Day Blast

The umbrella organisation of all Northern socio-cultural associations, Arewa Consultative Forum, ACF, Monday, condemned Christmas Day’s bomb blasts in some churches in the North, warning that the attack was capable of causing religious crises which would serve nobody any good in the country.

ACF said that the attack which had been blamed on suspected Boko Haram Islamic sect members, was misguided as most of those who go to worship places to pray to God could be illiterates who were incapable of either reading or writing Arabic or English languages, saying that the bombing were offensive to both God and mankind.

National Publicity Secretary of ACF, Mr Anthony Sani who made the organisation’s position in a statement in Kaduna, also said that the Western education over which the Boko Haram was apparently fighting innocent people was not necessarily the cause of the collapse of national ideals, moral values and indiscipline in the polity, as there were both Muslim and Christian countries with western education that were morally sound.

ACF’s statement read, ”The spate of bomb lasts on Christmas day, which were directed at places of worships across some parts of the North is a serious source of concern to ACF; to Northern leaders and to the good people of the North; indeed,to patriotic Nigerians.

‘Source of concern not because past bombings were less serious but because those on the Christmas day are capable of diverting attention to religious crises that would serve no one, including the perpetrators, any good now and for a long time to come.

”Consequently,ACF calls on the perpetrators of violence to stop forthwith and avail themselves to due process of addressing perceived grievances that are in place.

”ACF also wishes to say that killing of innocent Nigerians is not correct and offends God and many people’s sense of justice. This is because, a good number of those who go to places of worship are not lettered in either Western or Islamic education.

”More so that, Western education is not necessarily the cause of the collapse of national ideals, moral values and cause of indiscipline in the polity, since there are examples of Muslim countries and Christian countries with western education that are morally sound.

”Turkey which belongs to the former and Nordic country of Norway belongs to the later.
”Nigerians of all faiths must therefore come together and confront corruption in all ramifications by inspiring cultural renaissance for collective good.

”Corruption in Nigeria is not an exclusive preserve of Western education but a national malaise that should be confronted by all,and not government alone.

”Enough of the bombings and killings of innocent Nigerians.

And finally,ACF commiserates with those who lost their loved ones and properties to the misguided destruction.

”The forum prays to God of peace to give them the fortitude to endure the loss and means of replacements many folds.

”And to the perpetrators to accept the offer of dialogue and constructive engagements by well meaning Nigerians and world leaders.”

President GoodLuck Jonathan Meets Sultan

The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III has condemned the Christmas Day bomb blasts across the country, saying the group was evil and both religions must come together to put a stop to their activities.

Speaking with newsmen after meeting President Goodluck Jonathan for over two hours behind closed doors, the Sultan said: “We came in here to felicitate and commiserate with Mr. President over the unfortunate incident that happened this period.

We’ve had very positive meeting with the President on so many things and how to move this country forward, how to make our country stable and to approach those challenges that are facing Nigeria on a common ground.

“I want to assure all Nigerians that there is no conflict between Christians and Muslims, between Islam and Christianity. It is a conflict between evil people and good people and the good people are more than the evil doers.

The good people must come together to defeat the evil ones and that is the message. We want to assure all our Christian brothers and leaders that we stand on the path of truth according to our religion that we will continue to work Insha Allah for the greatness of this country.

“As I said, there is no conflict between Islam and Christianity and I want to assure that we will do all we can in the best of our ability to solve the numerous problems confronting our country”, he said.

Asked what was agreed on as a way out of the crisis, the Sultan disclosed that the government will look at all the past reports “including the one set up by the President on the North East crisis, also the Solomon Lar report on the Plateau and other reports and at the resumption of work Mr. President and his team will look through all those reports and then call for a meeting of a larger body for consultation with all of us, both religious and traditional leaders.

So we believe that is a very good way because we have to close ranks because no where in our two religions both Christianity and Islam that says we should be violent in dealing with one another”.

Answering another question that religious leaders have not spoken out enough, he said: “Have we not been speaking out? Did you read the press statement I issued out the day before yesterday (Sunday)? What else do you want us to say? We are totally against what has been happening, we totally condemn all these.

Nobody can take anybody’s life, it’s unislamic, its ungodly, nobody can take anybody’s life, all lives are sacred, must be respected and protected by all. So we have been speaking out. We all know what the situations are and we can only advise the government and we have been advising the government on several occasion”.

On the allegation that those that have dared to condemn the sect openly have gone back to them out of fear, the Sultan replied:  “There is no fear, I only speak as a Muslim leader and you know that we don’t say what we don’t mean and what we don’t do. It is against Islam, a special verse in the Holy Koran said so, don’t speak what you don’t do.

It is distasteful in the eyes of Almighty Allah, but we are quite aware of Almighty Allah’s instruction to always speak the truth because we will go back to him to give account for what we have done on earth. So whatever we say to anybody or any group at any time, we wholly mean so”.

Girl Loses Entire Family To Boko Haram Attack

Will you call it luck, destiny or divine intervention? For Nancy, the decision not to attend the Christmas Day early morning mass is kept her alive. Despite pressure on her by her father and siblings, Nancy, 13, the last of her parents’ three children, declined to go with them for the early morning Mass.

She pleaded with her parents to allow her stay back at home to enable her dress her hair. When it became evident that she was not ready to go with them, her mother, in annoyance, left some money and asked her to prepare food for the Christmas .

Francis and Jennifer Maduka, parents of Nancy, and their two elder daughters left for the church. They did not return.

There was no premonition that death was lurking in the corner. Not even the directive by the Parish Priest, Rev. Father Isaac Achi, that all parishioners should wait for a Christmas gift from “Baby Jesus” after the mass could stop the family from leaving immediately.

Far away from the church, Nancy was preparing to dress her hair when a loud and ear-deafening sound rented the air. Like a wild harmattan fire, the news of the bombings at St. Theresa Catholic Church went round Madalla. Suddenly, Nancy remembered that her parents and sisters were in the church. She dashed to the church to find her parents and two sisters burnt in their car.

Recounting the gory story, Nancy said: “I was not with them. I had to go and do my hair because I was in church throughout yesterday, preparing for the Christmas. So, I was unable to make it to mass, despite the pressure mounted by my father to dress up.

“At about 7:30am, I went to do my hair and from there, I heard some people talking about bomb blast at St. Theresa Church. So, I went to check. As I was about entering the church, and was making enquiry, I saw somebody lying on the ground, dead. I know my dad’s car; everybody in the car was dead. The first person I identified was one of my sisters; she was dried up by the fire from the explosion. I saw my parents in the front seat, and they were all burnt in the car. I lost all; my parents, my sisters. I lost all. I was crying because I can see a bleak future ahead of me. Where do I go from where I am? I was not only confused; I initially felt all hope was lost. The only thing I recalled was that some people came and dragged me away from my father’s burnt car.”

Now living with the Parish Sisters, Nancy is hopeful of a good future. “I don’t know why this happened, but since this is the way the good Lord wants it, let it be. All I know is that all hope is not lost. I strongly believe this is not the end of the world for me. I know God has a plan for me to have spared my life,” she said.

A Nigerian Student Jailed for Assaulting Actress

An Upper Area Court in Jos has sentenced a 20-year old student, Adamu Yakubu, to two years imprisonment for breaking the windscreen of a car belonging to an actress, Jemila Nagudu.

Adamu, of Government College, Jos, was convicted for smashing the windscreen of the car belonging to a Hausa film actress without any provocation contrary to section 361 of the Penal Code.

The court, however, gave the convict an option of N3,000 fine

The judge, Malam Mustapha Hassan, in his ruling, said that that the prosecution had convinced the court beyond all reasonable doubt that the convict committed the offence.

Hassan said that the evidence tendered before the court and the confessional statement of the accused had assisted the court in reaching its decision to convict him.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Gokwat Ibrahim, had told the court that the accused committed the offence on December 17, at Ali Kazaure Area of Jos.

“My lord, the accused, on the fateful day, at about 12 noon, ordered the actress to leave the area or face the consequences.

“When the actress, who was on a visit to her in-laws refused to leave the area, the accused used “a big stone” to smash the windscreen of her CRV jeep,” he further told the court.

The prosecutor said that the unidentified future partner of the actress reported the matter to Laranto police station, which resulted in the arrest of the suspect.

When the case came up for hearing, the accused pleaded guilty and begged the court for leniency.

The judge said that the convict would be sentenced so as to serve as a deterrent to others.

Reasons why Men Celebrity don't enjoy love making with their wives

Recently, studies have revealed that most Nigerian men do not enjoy sex with their wives. One out of every 3 marriages struggles with the problem of differing sex drives. And these had led to some of the major break ups in homes these days. Often the loss of sexual pleasure and intimacy results in depression, suspicion, anger, resentment, infidelity and divorce. Although it is clear that this issue is rarely one-sided, it is nevertheless surprising to many that it is often the man who puts the brakes on sexuality and the finger get pointed at the woman. In this report, BOLA AKINBOADE presents some of the reasons most Nigerian men don’t enjoy sex with their wives e as the level of intimacy between them also suddenly becomes cold.

SEXUAL INCOMPATIBILITY

Sexual incompatibility which leads to sexual disharmony and dissatisfaction is the major reason of break up in most marriages. Partners have different attitudes to sex. Your attitude towards sex depends on many factors, the major ones is upbringing and religion. If a girl was taught that sex is something dirty and shameful, than she is very unlikely to feel free and to be open to adventures. Most women refuse oral sex and consider it to be very dirty while men have quite the contrary opinion on this matter. In this situation both partners feel unhappy and sooner or later such a couple starts to experience problems, if unsolved, may lead to cheating or break up. Also if there is a discrepancy in the wife’s reproductive organ, such as tight vagina, this couple are likely to face some problems and this kind of sexual incompatibility can be very rarely resolved. Other factors that may also sexual incompatibility include; differences in the frequencies of sexual desire, different sexual appetite, and others. Most men seem to have a stronger sexual urge than their wives which they find difficult to meet up most of the time.

DIFFERENCES IN SEXUAL DRIVE

For some couples struggling with their relationship, a man may want more sex, while a woman feels their relationship doesn't have enough.
It is hard to expect sexual harmony if the husband wants sex 5 times a week, while the wife thinks that once time is enough. They simply have different sex drives. A woman’s sex drive differs from a man's .A man's sex drive is not so easily turned off. He has been hardwired to think about sex and want sex and, very rarely will a man find himself too tired or too stressed out to have sex. While the woman sex drive diminishes as she has to battle some of the marital issues. There are many things that can easily result in a loss of libido in women. Pregnancy, a hard day at work, the responsibilities of taking care of a home and family, hormonal fluctuation, depression, stress, less help and attention from her husband which was not this bad when they first got married.

LACK OF ADVENTURE

One of the reasons some men give for not enjoying sex with their wives is the fact that she is not sexually adventurous enough. For most couples, the extreme passion and desire of new style of love quickly subsides. During those first few months of lovemaking, everyone's adventurous to varying degrees of personal comfort level, because everyone's really on an adventure. It's all exciting, and it's all new. But in some couple of years, they passion begin to wane and the thrill is gone. Some women suddenly becomes uptight and all the effort by the husband to ignite back the fire seems unproductive.

BOREDOM

Another reason why some men don’t enjoy sex with their wives is boredom. Their sexual life at a point becomes monotonous, same place, same station, same way every time. Men like variety, and when a couple get stuck in a routine, the man is the first one to get dissatisfied with it. What was exciting once upon a time now seems dull. Some men may not be having sex with their wives because sex simply isn't worth the effort. They'd rather watch television.

ANGER

Anger and resentment is another reason some men not only enjoy having sex with their wives.Oftentimes, the anger remains unexpressed. This silent seething has the effect of Novocaine numbing many of the senses, including sexual desire. Many husbands get fed up with a nagging wife at home. And since the wife has become an annoying bully; he shuts down completely and withholds the only thing he thinks might hurt her.

DEPRESSION

Depression is another reason why some men don’t enjoy sex with their wife. Many times, the man may not even be aware that he is depressed over the stressful things in life-economic stress, career stres, not achieving things he wants and others. He is not aware that he has responded to the stress with anger, and the anger has moved into depression. He is not enthusiastic about having sex at all. Compounding the problem, some of the more common antidepressants can cause loss of libido or inability to perform sexually.A report says that antidepressants can have another negative effect on a relationship: it diminishes interest in connecting emotionally with a partner.

SHE GAINS A LOT OF WEIGHT AND BECOMES LESS ATTRACTIVE

Another reason men stop desiring their wives is because they no longer find them physically attractive, or suddenly gained so much weight. Many women do not take care of themselves. They go out of shape and lose out on their figure. At home, they do not take care of their appearances or dress up properly. Naturally, a man becomes fed up with his wife and found her attractive any longer. Men are visual, so excessive weight gain may indeed pose a problem for them. And since Obesity also diminishes libido, an over weight wife may not be as responsive as her partner.

EXTRA- MARITAL AFFAIR

Trying out something new is often a reason given by the husband for indulging in an extra-marital affair. He often feels he needs a change of taste and would like to spend time with someone who is “different” and perhaps “more exciting”. At times, the wife could also be responsible for the situation. A wife paying too much attention to children and household chores often forces a man to go in for relationships outside marriage. He feels neglected. He wants more attention and since he is not getting it at home he prefers to get it from an outsider. And even though he doesn’t have any desire to leave his wife, sometimes the man feel guilty of this act which limits the full expression of his love and desire for his wife. And when he is getting so much fun and varieties from outside, it will be difficult to enjoy the boring and monotonous one from his wife which no longer gets him aroused.

Unhappy Nigerian Children Write Jonathan Over Christmas Day Blasts

"Dear Mr. President: We should say Merry Christmas but we are not your government, we are not in the business of deception. After almost ten hours of gathering your thoughts to speak on the bomb blasts that rocked the nation yesterday, you still fell short of your own very low standards.

What did you intend to say when you said Bomb Blasts are a burden we must live with? Why do you bother to budget over a trillion for security if we must live with the burden of insecurity? How come you are still a president? We do not blame you, we blame our older ones who were stupid enough to think that where you come from and your religion was all you needed to be a competent president.
"

They are crying now. We all cried yesterday on the darkest Christmas day of our short lives.
While we cried and left Christmas postponed for another year, we watched as you danced your life away like there was no tomorrow. Is it true that all you care about is the fact that you are the president so whatever can happen should happen. Last night we prayed for you. We prayed that the white men should be able to make common sense so that we can budget for it and then you will have it in abundance. As it is, it is obvious sir that you are grossly lacking in common sense.
If you weren’t, you would never come out to tell a mourning nation that it should get ready to live with the burden of destruction and insecurity. That was utterly insensitive and even the dumbest of our mates, fellow Nigerian children would never descend that low to an unprecedented level of cluelessness.

We understand this is not a sane country, if this was a sane country, your ilk will not be in a job. Your security chiefs, yourself and your cabinet would have been throwing resignation letters left right and centre. But then, here is a place where people are satisfied with just being in positions, that they are clueless about what to do in such positions does not matter.

Mr. President, Boko Haram defeated you in 2011. What plans are you making for 2012? Do you realise they have since improved while your security tactics remain stop and search? Do you realise they are far more coordinated than ever before? Have you thought of engaging more intelligence in curbing this menace instead of just mere brute? Yes, you have issues with concentrating for long, why not budget for a concentrator? That way you are conditioned to at least focus on being the president of Nigeria instead of our national chief chef? You are wondering where that came from? It came from cassava bread sir. You chose the menu for 2012 but we hope you realise that Boko Haram certainly has a menu.

Please Mr. President, they will look to attack again in the New Year, do what you have never done before, get your security chiefs to prevent that by all means. Contrary to your assertion, we are not prepared to live with the burden of bomb blasts. Get yourself to work and stop excusing your inability to deal with Boko Haram on the premise that they are a necessity. What is that? If you cannot lead and be a president, help yourself and resign. Please take your vice-president along. You are a twin set of incompetence.

This letter has been written with kind words, not because we are in the mood to be nice to you but because we are children and respect is a value we want to live with but our lack of it sometimes is a burden you must live with as long as you force us to live with your Boko Haram burden.

We wrote you a letter on subsidy yesterday but we figured it would be better to send this before you get our other letter. As long as your cluelessness reigns supreme in this country, we will always remind you of our angst and stake in this nation. It is not by force to live in Aso Rock. So if you must, do the right things, say the right things and learn to get the basic things right.

The Bomb Blasts darkened our Christmas but your response dampened our mood even further. This is not the way to lead a people. If you need help, we will nominate one of us to offer you words of wisdom for free. As it is, you look overwhelmed by the mere job of providing security for Nigeria let alone the other duties you swore to carry out for Nigeria.

Action point: Sack yourself sir, and take Arc. Namadi Sambo along. It is a good place to start.

Homosexuality is not a psychological disorder

Senior lecturer, Department of Psychology at the Landmark University, Dr. Gboyega Abikoye, has dismissed claims that homosexuality is a psychological disorder, saying there is no consensus among scientists and psychologists on the reasons why individuals develop homosexual orientation.

Citing results of various studies, Abikoye said homosexuality was removed from the list of psychology disorders since 1992 for lack of empirical evidence.

“From a scientific point of view, homosexuality is not a psychological disorder as it is not included in the list of psychological disorders contained in the Diagnostic Statistical Manual for Mental Disorders  and the International Classification of Diseases. These two instruments are the classification instruments used by psychologists, psychiatrists and other mental health professionals in the world.

“The debates regarding the status of homosexuality have received ample empirical attention and no study has found conclusive evidence that homosexuality is a psychological disorder. It was this lack of empirical evidence that prompted the American Psychiatric Association to remove homosexuality from the list of psychological disorders as far back as 1973.

“It appeared that the rest of the world was initially sceptical about the American decision to de-list homosexuality from psychological disorders, so homosexuality remained in the ICD (which is published by World Health Organisation) until 1992 when it was removed from ICD’s list of psychological disorders for want of empirical evidence,” he said.

Abikoye added that the possible factors causing homosexuality in some individuals included genetic, hormonal, developmental, social and cultural influences.

However, the psychologist noted that from all evidence available, homosexuality was a deviation and should be seen more as a social problem than a spiritual or cultural problem.

He said, “The claims that homosexuality is at variance with our culture is inconsistent with facts on ground. The fact is that homosexuality is not a new phenomenon and what we are doing now is merely popularising it. My position on this issue is a social-scientific one.

“As an individual, I am totally against homosexuality. However, as a psychologist I know that there is a huge difference between the ideal and the real, and the ideal of one man is an aberration to another man.”

Abikoye however noted that some studies have found considerably higher incidences of psychological disorders among homosexuals than heterosexuals.

Presidency to organise security summit

ABUJA – AS medical personnel continue to cope with overbearing pressure from victims of Madalla, Suleja Christmas bombing, the Presidency is set to organize a National Security Summit, NSS, in the new year on possible best ways to secure Nigeria in the present and future.

Top security officials, Sunday, rose from a crucial session with a declaration that Boko Haram decision to destroy Nigeria must be urgently nip in the bud, saying that the menace underscores the budgetary proposal for 2012 fiscal year.

The security chiefs also want the federal government to declare the new year a security year, as part of deliberate efforts to tackle the rising wave of insecurity in Nigeria, essentially the Boko Haram terror group and many other ethnic militia formation across the country.

Also, as part of fresh measures to address the growing security concerns, the security hierarchy has adopted a recommendation for a security summit early next year, where top Nigerian security actors are expected to inject fresh ideas into ongoing efforts by government to stem the tide.

The security summit which is being planned by the Federal Government is to hold in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, and will be funded through the 2012 financial votes for national security.

An impeccable security source told Vanguard that “no amount of budgetary allocation is too much for security related projects because all over the world, security is a top priority of every responsible government and Nigeria cannot be  an exception, especially in the face of current level of insecurity”.

According to the source, the security summit would encourage all security experts, both serving and retired personnel to mount the stage and speak openly and frankly, in a manner similar to the constitutional conference, which would make far reaching recommendations to government on present and future security measures.

It was learn that the summit is a follow-up to a recent meeting of all former National Security Advisers, NSAs, which was convened by the office of the incumbent NSA, Gen. Andrew Azazi, to discuss the menace of Boko Haram and the best ways out.

Nigeria Police Arrests 1yr Old Baby

Nigerians have strongly condemned the action of men of the Nigeria Police Force against the family of a journalist who's currently having some issues with the Governor of Benue State, Gabriel Suswan and his wife.

The story goes thus: The Police in Benue State have taken hostage an...
entire family, including a one-year old baby, in an effort to compel the baby’s father (a journalist) to turn himself over to them for a story published by his newspaper.

The baby is Wuese-ter Ibya, and was seized along with its mother, Faith Ibya. Mrs. Faith Ibya is the wife of Henry Ibya, the Benue State Correspondent of Premier Newspaper. His sister, Grace Ibya, was also arrested.

The management of Roobbs Communications Network Limited, publishers of The Premier Newspaper, said in a statement that the family was forcibly taken as hostages in order to force Mr. Ibya to report himself to the police.

“We are reliably informed that the police authorities in Benue State are acting under the instruction of the governor who was visibly angered by the uncomplimentary story about his wife which bordered on extortion of money from Benue women under the guise of improving the lot of Benue women in the celebration of the fifth edition of Benue Women, where the women were coerced to pay unwholesome amounts of money, despite the state government having released the sum of N100 million for the said function,” the statement said.

Roobbs Communications described placing Mr. Ibya's wife, year-old baby and sister under arrest as “barbaric” and out of tune with the laws of the Federal Government of Nigeria, particularly in view of the new the Freedom of Information law.

“It is sad that the Nigerian police, despite spirited efforts by the government to redeem its battered image and position it on proper pedestal to discharge its duties in accordance with the law, has continued to shoot itself in the foot with its recklessness and abusive tendencies,” the newspaper management said, calling for the hostages to be released with immediate effect and the law allowed to prevail.
