Breaking News: Moamar Qaddafi son Saif Qaddafi caught, in southern Libya

TRIPOLI, Libya -- Moamar Qaddafi's son, Saif al-Islam Qaddafi, has been captured in southern Libya, a Libyan militia commander said Saturday.

Bashir al-Tlayeb, of the Zintan brigades, told a news conference Saif was captured with two aides trying to smuggle him out to neighboring Niger.

It had been thought Saif had already made his way into Niger.

The commander said Saif had been taken to the Libyan town of Zintann, and would not comment on where he might be tried.

The International Criminal Court had earlier said that it was in indirect negotiations with Saif about his possible surrender for trial, the chief prosecutor said Friday.

The Arab television network Al Jazeera reports horns were being honked in celebration in the Libyan rebel capital of Mesrata when word of Saif's capture reached there.

CBS News sources say Libya will not want to repeat the treatment that the rebels gave Saif's father, Muammar Qaddafi. The eyes of world will be on Libya when it comes to dealing with Saif, the sources say.
