BISHOP OYEDEPO’S SHILLOH SLAP: NIGERIANS IN DIASPORA URGE GOV. AMOSUN TO INVESTIGATE THE ASSAULT

Some Nigerians in diaspora have  urged Nigerians to sign a petition to  the Ogun State governor, Ibikunle Amosun, asking him investigate the conduct of general overseer of Winners’ Chapel, Bishop David Oyedepo, sometime last year at a Shilloh service in Otta, Ogun State.

At a deliverance service at the church’s headquarters, Oyedepo violently slapped a female member across the face when she claimed she is a witch.

A YouTube video that showed the Bishop slap the female member, when she insisted she is a “witch for Jesus”,  went viral and consequently drew ire from Nigerians .

While kneeling in front of the Bishop, amongst other ‘sinners’ who desire deliverance, Oyedepo asked the lady what brought her, and she said she is a witch for Jesus. The cleric told her Jesus has no witch, but when the lady insisted, the visibly angry Oyedepo slapped her violently across the face.

He first asked “ do you know who you are talking to” , the lady replied I’m  not a witch, but a witch for Jesus” . When she insisted he slapped her and added “ you can go and burn in hell”

In a petition to Amosun channeled through an international website for petitions, Go Petition International, the petitioners said “ it appears as though the Bishop may have violated the criminal code Act, chapter 29, part V sections 351-365 of the 1999 constitution.”

One of the petitioners based in the United States, Banji Oyebisi said they are looking at putting together no fewer than 101,000 signatures against oyedepo.

According to him “ our objective is try and get at least 101, 000 signatures that we will submit to Governor Amosun. We want to say we are tired of this kind of conduct, violence against women.

Did he   broke the law. We want the governor to ask his attorney general to look at the video and see if he broke the law. The act was violent. Let them prosecute him if he broke the law.

We want the people to speak, let them sign the petition”
