ABAKALIKI— THE immediate past Vice Chairman, Senate Committee on Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Senator Anthony Agbo, Monday, described President Goodluck Jonathan’s silence over the ongoing discourse at the National Assembly on same sex marriage as worrisome.
He said it was obligatory on the part of the President to affirm the stand of the nation considering the recent call by the British Prime Minister on African countries to adopt same sex marriage if they would continue to enjoy aid from the United Kingdom.
Agbo, who spoke with newsmen in Abakaliki, pointed out that it was inexplicable how the immoral practice of same sex marriage should be tied to any form of economic aid to African countries even as he expressed unhappiness that Nigeria was yet to speak out on the matter.
He said: “But there is a way I feel about certain things; our leaders should rise and lead Africa’s opinion on such sensitive and controversial issues. The silence of Nigeria’s President on such a mind blowing statement from the British Prime Minister is ominous and inexplicable to me.
“The political leader of a nation is also seen as the spiritual leader and a minister of God. It is gladdening that Ghana and about four other countries have spoken defiantly against the evil proposition.
“Our leaders should remember that European nations are going down based on their stand on such ungodly propositions.
“African nations could find themselves in near extinct situations if they do not rise up against such immoral and devilish ideas.”
“So I expect President Goodluck Jonathan to lead opinion on this matter. Why is he keeping strange silence to this satanic policy of same sex marriage? Nigerians would want to hear the voice of their leader on the matter. Silence could mean acquiescence if the country does not make its stand known,” Agbo asserted.
