35 years Old Man in Police net for Raping 12-yr-old orphan

A35-year-old man, is now in police net for allegedly defiling a 12-year- old orphan and pupil of St Silas Primary School in Ijan-Ekiti, Gbonyin Local Government Area of Ekiti State. The girl (name withheld) was discharged from the General Hospital, Ijan Ekiti, where she received treatment because of the injuries she sustained in her private part as a result of the forceful sex.
The orphan, who presently lives with her grandmother, told journalists that the culprit committed the heinous crime at about 3pm after she returned from school.

The suspect, a lumber man is being detained at the state Police headquarters in Ado-Ekiti.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Mr. Victor Babayemi, told Daily Sun on phone that he had not got enough facts on the issue. He promised to send detail information when he got sufficient information on the issue after consulting with the relevant departments. Explaining to journalists how she was raped yesterday in Ado Ekiti, the victim said she went to the neighborhood to fetch water from the well when she was accosted by the suspect and asked her to help him fetch a bucket of water to his apartment.

She disclosed that she had to decline, having realized that he was a stranger in the street and that her grandmother would feel offended if she ran errand for somebody that was not well known to the people. “When he realized that I was not ready to help him, he pounced on me, carried me on his shoulder-high and took me to an uncompleted portion of the building where he lives, tore my cloth and had sex with me.” She disclosed that the suspect stuffed her mouth with a rag to prevent her from crying while having sex with her, so that the people in the neighborhood would not be aware of what was happening.

The minor said she had been having a rumbling since the incident happened and her “After the sex, I was bleeding profusely, he then gave me N100 to buy drugs and he fled. When I could not rise up from that spot where he raped me, the younger brother to the suspect’s landlord, Mr. Abdul Abu saw me and raised alarm.” The elder brother to the girl’s mother, Mr. Gbenga Omotehinse disclosed that the suspect denied when he was apprehended by the Police after a thorough search on the day he committed the offence, but later confessed at the Police headquarters after interrogation.

The Special Assistant to the Governor on Legal Matters, Olanrewaju Kunle disclosed that three persons had been arrested before the culprit confessed to the police that he committed the offence. Olanrewaju said the Ekiti State Government would take the matter with all seriousness, saying the offence was a contravention of the Child Rights Act and the Gender-based Violence Prohibition Law passed by the state government.
