A Navy Captain (names withheld) has been arrested over the escape of a vessel M.T.Beaver, arrested earlier this month for carrying stolen crude oil.
The captain, Vanguard gathered, additionally doubles as a maritime guard commander of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, NIMASA.
He has been in detention since December three.
It was gathered that the captain was directed to arrest the vessel, a directive he complied with and handed over the crew and vessel to NIMASA officers. NIMASA’s management, however, refuted the claim, saying the maritime agency didn't have the facility to detain any arrested vessel.
It was learnt that when the arrest and detention of the vessel, it mysteriously disappeared from where it had been berthed.
