Eyewitnesses, who spoke to journalists, said the boys were arrested at about 5.00 a.m by a team of vigilante, who alleged that the suspects were armed with axe and knives.

Although there was no report of a robbery incident in the area, the witnesses said the vigilante claimed the boys were pounced on because they acted suspiciously.

Meanwhile, some students of the Uniport have expressed outrage over the lynching of the students. They said that the suspects should have been handed over to the police for proper investigation.

The spokesman of the Rivers State Police Command, Ben Ugwuegbulam, who confirmed the incident said that efforts by the police to rescue the suspects proved abortive, promising that an investigation would be carried out on the matter.

They simply appeared to be returning from Cult activities and not robbery. Doomsday for them.
