An Open Letter To Tonto Dikeh From An Igbo Man

Dear Tonto Dikeh,

I know you feel beautiful this morning! Well, beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. For me, you are nowhere near ‘beautiful’. You are just there. But before I tell you what I really want to tell you, I need to tell you something. There is a lady called Adele. She is a singer. She sings. I need to explain what a singer means, because I understand that you have no brain at all. Because I hate sugar-coating, I am hated by a lot of people. You are just like me too. I will understand when people hate you, but, seriously, if you think Igbo men are nosy, then, you are right. That is your opinion and you must protect it.

I am an Igbo man. I will defend myself right now. Back to Adele. I will tell you everything about this young lady who transformed herself into something very beautiful in the eyes of men. I also understand that you don’t know her, but it won’t hurt if I tell you about her now. This is what TIME magazine wrote about her few days ago: “As talented and appealing as she is, few could foresee how utterly dominant Adele would be in 2011: in an era where even the highest-tier musical acts can struggle to move records, her sophomore effort, 21, sold 17 million copies worldwide and spent 16 weeks at the top of the Billboard 200 chart, the longest for any record since 1998's Titanic sound track. Combined with sales of her previous album, 19, Adele has topped the U.K. charts for 21 weeks — a feat matched only by the bands Oasis and Queen.” Tonto nne m, Adele is 23. You are older. She is not worried about her future. You are. She is focused about her music.

You are worried that no Igbo man will marry you after you’ve created yourself into a bamboo stick. Truth is that I don’t know you personally, but you’ve created a strong mystery around yourself. People see you as a soul from hell. They say you’ve sold your soul to the devil. Me, I don’t know where the devil lives, but I think you have. You even went ahead to show us tattoos at your back. I just didn’t understand why you did that. As an Igbo man, I will never marry a woman who has shown the entire world ‘my tattoos.’ It is not good. I am an Igbo man, so I will need to know who snapped the picture. Maybe, your secret boyfriend? This is the reason why we are bad, abi? Adele doesn’t go around seeking attention. She doesn’t pay anyone to publish pictures of her tattoos. Who knows? She may just have a lot of them. I haven’t seen them. I have seen yours.

There is nothing wrong in you tattooing your entire body, but what is my business with that? Are you not supposed to be an actress? Of course, I understand that you appear in pornographic films now? That is good. At least, you are doing what you know best. But to pick on Igbo men? This is very unacceptable. You insulted a lot of us. This simply shows how unintelligent you are towards anthropology. Men are the same all over the world. Igbo man, Yoruba man, Hausa man. We all treat women in similar ways. We love unconditionally. And we all become nosy when our women start acting like you. If your father is an Igbo man, dearest Tonto Dikeh, you are a monkey. But I will be sorry if you didn’t say that. I only rely on the media, since I don’t know you personally. If you didn’t say it, Tonto, I am very sorry. I will publicly apologise. Yet, I believe you did, because you do so many things after marijuana. If it’s not good for your brain, stop smoking. Listen to Adele’s Someone Like You and you will feel good.

Wizkid Insults Tonto Dikeh “Brush Up Your Spellings”

Ghen Ghen!!!.......Wizkid on Tuesday, November 6 expressed his displeasure at Tonto’s spelling game. ‘I get mad when a chick doesn’t type right…wtf is succezz?!‘, a somewhat infuriated @Wizkidayo tweeted.

Any ardent follower of Tonto Dike on the social network know the controversial actress replaces her ‘S’s with ‘Z’s. Here profile reads;

Who eva said Succezz waz a slow procezz waz mos defntly not talking abt Mii/Businez tycoon/A petro/chemical engr /IAMNollywood *#IAMPOKO# Tlovethyself #I luv TerryG.

And when someone jokingly explained to Wizzy, that Miss Dike was only being trendy, he replied – ‘Thats that sh*t i don’t like!’.

Wizkid had earlier expressed his dissatisfaction with the actress venturing into the world of music saying that ‘she needs to chill’.

Well, Miss Dikeh’s not chilling yet, and it’s possible what she’s doing on and off twitter is paying off – with over 200,000 downloads of her debut singles, and a constantly increasing loyal fan base, she’s getting more attention than anyone else in her category. Tonto Dikeh Perform On Stage At TBS Auditorium, Lagos: Controversial Nollywood actress, Tonto Dikeh, performed on Sunday, November 11, 2012 get her first public performance as a singer at the Best of Nollywood (BON) awards holding at the Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS) auditorium, Onikan, Lagos.

According to what we confirmed from the show organizer, Seun Oloketuyi, Tonto is set to dazzle guests at the event with her sterling performance. Though her singles were criticized when they were released few weeks ago, but her stage performance has not yet been tested.

We learnt that Tonto is a good performer on stage and is prepared to show herself as a good entertainer and performer.

Charles Novia's Critique of Tonto Dike's songs

Charles Novia's Critique of Tonto Dike's songs: I have restrained myself for a couple of years from commenting on Tonto Dike's career after my last comments about her role in the soft porn movie she acted in two years back, were badly taken by her and she went on twitter to hurl infantile insults on my person with expletives and uncomplimentary remarks. 

My reaction to such then was just a dignified silence. After all, I had already spoken on her stunted talent as an up and coming actress and further comments on her incensed tweets were unnecessary.

All through the past few hours, the social media networks have been abuzz with the new singles of actress, Tonto Dike. She seems to have joined the actors of her ilk who have the moonlighting itch to delve into singing. While no one can stop such an ambition by those artistes, I do think those who surround such artistes are their worst enemies if they can't tell them the truth about leaving their sometimes doubtful day job.

Well, I will! I listened to Miss Dike's two singles a few minutes ago and my initial speechlessness morphed to a nagging laughter and then subsided into a befuddled anguish. I'm a music label owner (November Records) and have produced and Executive Produced acts like Majek Fashek, Terry tha Rapman, Zubby Enebeli etc.

I know much about music and the slant of commercial music. But after listening to Miss Dike's songs, I'm inclined to align with the majorly negative comments about them on cyberspace. Ah-ah! Whoever produced her knew she has a bad voice for singing and masked our listening torture with the Autotune effect.

But even the Autotune rejected any attempt to make a bad voice worse and Miss Dike came out sounding like she was in mid-stream orgasm instead of singing! Her anguished tremolos would have been better reserved for a horror movie sound effect than an attempt at joining the revered profession of music.

If Omotola got away with her last two terrible attempts at singing, it was because Omotola is a fantastic actress and her fans could forgive her musical failings after backtracking her body of work in Nollywood. With Tonto, I can't say much either for her acting depth. She's a one-dimensional actress in my opinion, who mistakes notoriety for fame.

She needs more training in acting and this I say with all sense of professionalism as a movie Director. She might achieve greater heights in acting if she trains more. But she has no heights to achieve in singing. Only a downward plunge, the stuff bad endings in movies are made of.

Tonto Dikeh Gives Scholarship to Students

Nollywood Actress, Tonto Dikeh could be controversial,yes,but on Sunday December 11, 2011,she showed her softer side, when she hosted 100 children who had distinguished themselves in their studies at a party in Lagos (Nigeria). The party, which was held at Troy Lounge, Ogba saw two children winning educational scholarships from the actress. Ibitayo Adeyemo, a Primary 4 student and Femi Akintunde both won 2-Year educational scholarships. The actress has disclosed that she will ensure that she fulfils the scholarships, as this is what makes her happy. According to her:

“I have decided to do this because I noticed that a lot of things are changing in our society. When I was growing up most of the big companies were supporting education with scholarships, debates and therefore students strive to be their best but all these is being lost”

Tonto Dikeh plans to fete 100 Most Brilliant students

DESPITE her seemingly controversial nature as a screen diva, Tonto Dike still has the milk of human kindness flowing in her veins.  She has concluded plans to fete about 100 most brilliant students from both private and public schools in Lagos.

Speaking on why the actress who recently delved into music is reaching out to these students, she says, “The act of rewarding brilliant students with scholarships and through other means which used to be very prevalent in those days seems to have gone into extinction.”

“There are thousands of intelligent students who need to be shown lots of love, if not for anything but for their outstanding successes. The idea is to appreciate them in any little way I can and this Christmas period provides an excellent opportunity.”

For those who probably think that Tonto is known for all the negative reasons,the sultry actress   has decided to chart a new course for herself after many weeks of controversies that trailed her  recently-acquired tattoo that covers over 70 percent of her back.
