Woman pours hot stew on 14-year-old girl

A woman, Tawa Adetifa, 33, was on Tuesday docked at the Somolu Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for allegedly pouring hot stew on her 14-year-old neighbour’s daughter, over a misunderstanding with the alleged victim’s mother.

Adetifa is facing a two-count charge of breach of the peace and inflicting injuries on Bela Gabriel, before Magistrate Bola Osunsanmi.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecutor, ASP Akinlabi Adegoke, told the court that the accused, who sells beer, had breached the peace at No. 15, Ashimowu St., Bariga, in Lagos, on Nov. 30.

He said that Adetifa allegedly poured the hot stew on Bela during a quarrel with the victim’s mother.

Adetifa, in her fury, carried the hot pot of soup that Gabriel’s mother - being a food vendor- was cooking for her business.

The soup was poured on the 14-year-old girl in a bid to get back at the mother during a misunderstanding,`` the prosecutor alleged.

He argued that the accused allegedly wounded the girl because she supported her mother against her.

Adegoke informed the court that the complainants’ shop was next to that of the accused.

According to Adegoke, the alleged offences, which were committed on Nov. 30, contravened Sections 249(d) 2 and 338 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State.

Osunsanmi, who granted the accused N200,000 bail with two sureties in like sum, adjourned the case till Dec. 21 for trial. (NAN)
